Election time!
Today in the world there are two main political leaders who are being constantly attacked and maligned even by members within their own political parties. In Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu is facing an election in April this year and at present weathering a barrage of accusations that as yet have not been proven despite those bringing the charges saying they have evidence to the fact. There is a short video clip on the Israel Today website featuring Prime Minister Netanyahu defending himself against the accusations being made against him. It is in Hebrew. The comment in English about this interview states; “In this short and effective clip, which doesn’t denigrate anyone or any party, it packs a lot of innuendo that every Israeli can grasp in a heartbeat. It addresses what Netanyahu sees as a years-long personal smear campaign against him and his family; it addresses a biased media and bizarre police investigations; it addresses the absurdity of being charged for seeking positive media coverage; and it does all of that and more in a humorous and witty way that puts Netanyahu in a new light, a playful prime minister who can take a jab at his rivals without resorting to fake news, defamation and other forms of abuse.”
A man of action!
In Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu is working around the clock to defend Israeli citizens from attacks from Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah, Iran’s proxy, digging underground tunnels from Lebanon into Israel. Then you have Turkish military forces gathering in Syria and the Syrian regime seeking ways and means to destroy Israel. Added to this you have Iranian military on Syrian soil installing missile launchers and bases not to mention the increasing tirade of threats against Israel coming from the Iranian regime itself. Prime Minster Netanyahu is sanctioning air strikes against Iranian missile sites in Syria and targeting Syrian military facilities and there is no doubt Israel and Iran are on a collision course. There is no one more capable that Prime Minister Netanyahu in Israel at present to handle the growing crisis facing Israelis every day. The last thing he needs right now is ‘political dissunity.’
No armchair politician
In America there are those within the rank and file of the political arena who are seeking to find anything they can on President Trump to remove him from office at a time when America needs a man like him in the Whitehouse. President Trump is trying to protect the American people from the drug cartels and terrorists and illegal immigrants flooding across the border from Mexico. He wants to build solid iron wired fences along the border seperating Mexico from the United States which statistically will decrease the level of illegals and drug runners drastically. In Israel the West Bank Wall has worked and prevented many Israelis from being shot at by Jihad minded Palestinian Arabs. Israel has proved that walls work and President Trump knows the wall along the Mexico border will work for the welfare of all Americans. Both in Israel and the United States there is no end to the ‘armchair’ politicians who from their political comfort zones like to throw stones at these two men who are actively fighting for the security of their respective nations. Now is not the time to do this kind of thing.
A house divided?
Islam is a rapidly rising global threat to democracy in the west. Already Islam has started the invasion of the west through unchecked migration in Western Europe. Sleeper cells are solidly entrenched in many western democracies as the Trojan Horse of Islam still goes unchallenged. The Lord Jesus was right when He said “a house divided against its self cannot stand.” Consider the Islamic world. Muslims are always fighting each other and Jihad is carried out against as many, if not more Muslims, than it is against the western democracies. Ishmael’s seed will always be divided. (Genesis 16:12) In fact we are told that “Ishmael died in the face of his brethren” as the Hebrew language describes it. In other words he died fighting his own kind. This is the face of Islam today.
A common enemy
However, historically when Islam is faced with a common enemy they join ranks. Every time a Mahdi has appeared in the Muslim world the Muslims have for the most part supported him in his Jihad against the west. When the cards are stacked against them they join forces and unite against their common enemy. Humanly speaking this is their strength when waging Jihad against the west as we have seen in previous history when the whole of Europe at times was threatened by Islamic invasion. Today it is happening again as we see the forces of Islam ‘upping the ante’ in their Jihad against the west. Because of weak politicians not wanting to take a stand against Islamic invasion of the west through unchecked migration from Muslim countries they now have Islamic enclaves everywhere on European soil demanding Sharia law enforcement. Islam itself cannot assimilate.
Infiltration
Even in American politics you have Muslim politicians seeking office who publically damn Israel and call for their destruction. One such politician in America is newly-elected Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, one of the first of two Muslim women ever elected to Congress, who used her first public interview to bash Israel on Yahoo News. Islam is seeking to infiltrate every level of government. This is part and parcel of the creed and goals of the Muslim Brotherhood. The Israelis have no illusions about Islam neither does President Trump. Of course America has its own internal problems and President Trump in his pre-election speeches spoke about “cleaning up America’s backyard” referring no doubt to corrupt politicians in Washington and their inactivity to really bring about change for the average American.
God’s Soverignty
Both Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Trump are by no means perfect men and like all of us they will have to stand before the LORD to give an account of what they have said and done or failed to do in this life. Having said this, these men are not in their position by chance even though they were elected by the people. Once again, as elections draw near in Israel and undoubtedly for America in the not too distant future, we must always keep in mind what the prophet Daniel said; “Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are His. He changes times and seasons; He deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. He reveals deep and hidden things; He knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with Him.” (Daniel 2:20-22)
God is the God of History
God is the God of history and works through nations and their leaders to fulfil his ultimate plans and purposes. As the LORD spoke through his servant the prophet Isaiah; “Remember the former things long past, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, ‘My purpose will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure’” (Isaiah 46:9-10) According to the Lord Jesus the time is coming when nations and their leaders will not know the way out of the problems facing them on a global scale.
He Himself said…“There will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, men fainting from fear and the expectation of the things which are coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” (Luke 21:25-28)
Notice what He says to His faithful followers. “When these things begin to take place,” meaning when they are increasing in frequency and intensity like labour pains on a woman about to give birth, those who love and obey Him are to do three things.
Firstly; we are to “Straighten up!” and don’t allow ourselves to be bent over at the knees in fear and trepidation. We are to stand straight with our eyes fixed on those things which are unseen and eternal and not on those things which are seen but temporal.
Secondly; He says; we are to “lift up our heads” anticipating His soon return, clothed with the garments of salvation and filled up with the oil of the Spirit with the lamp of our inner spirit trimmed and burning brightly by faith.
Thirdly; He says; we are to do these things “because our redemption is drawing near.” When we see the ‘birth pains’ of wars, rumours of wars, earthquakes, disease, famine, nation against nation and kingdom against kingdom and persecution and spiritual deception on an unprecedented scale that is increasing in their frequency and intensity we know that the birth of the Messiah’s Kingdom on earth is imminent.
As we see uncertain times increasing globally let us be encouraged by what the writer to Hebrews had to say from the LORD; “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off every encumbrance and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with endurance the race set out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfector of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” (Hebrews 12:1-3) We may not as yet see what we will be like when He comes back. When He does come back to earth we will be changed in the twinkling of an eye at the rapture and resurrection of the saints. In that day when the last trumpet sounds we will receive immortal, glorified bodies as Jesus Himself has. (Philippians 3:21) As we persevere in faith we can be sure of this that the author and perfector of our faith intends to finish what He has started in our lives if we remain faithful to Him and committed to preaching the gospel. As Paul writes; “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1:6)
Elected leaders come and go over time. Politicians, potentates, despots and global leaders rise and fall at the behest of Him who upholds all things by his powerful Word. (Hebrews 1:3) Like the grass that withers and like the fading flowers are the lives of men and women in this fallen world, but the Word of our God remains forever. (Isaiah 40:8) As it is also written “Your word, O LORD, is everlasting; it is firmly fixed in the heavens. Your faithfulness continues through all generations; You established the earth, and it endures.” (Psalm 119:89-90) I always like to quote the late David Wilkerson who used to say “God still has everything under control!” In the end God always casts the final vote!
