It was a time of war and King David had sent his general Joab out with the king’s men and the whole Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and lay siege to Rabbah. However, David remained in Jerusalem. When God’s people were engaged in warfare against God’s enemies their king had stayed back and was somewhat at ease in his palace.
