And They Sang the Song of Moses

“They sang the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb” (Revelation 15:3a)

The Israelites had been delivered out of Egypt by the hand of God moving through His servant Moses. Now they faced the Red Sea and their backs “were against the wall” metaphorically speaking. The Egyptians were closing in and it looked like the nation of Israel was about to be annihilated. At this time many of the Israelites were wishing they had never left Egypt. They cried out to God and played ‘the blame game’ against Moses. (Exodus 14:10-12)

The Israelites had been in Egypt for 430 years but up until a Pharaoh came to power who did not know Joseph, the Israelites had things quite good in Egypt. God had arranged the situation in Egypt to bring His people out of the idolatrous nation. Now faced with annihilation from the Egyptians and with their backs to the Red Sea the Israelites had nowhere to turn but to the Lord and to his servant Moses to save them out of their extremity. Of course the Lord intervened. As it is written, “He made known His ways to Moses, His deeds to the people of Israel.” (Psalm 103:7)

Even though Israel as a nation recognised the supernatural hand of God protecting them in Egypt when the plagues hit, they still did not know His ways but Moses did. Moses knew that God would deliver on His covenant promises to His redeemed people. When it looked like Israel would be annihilated as a nation in desperation they looked to Moses and were saved by the Lord acting through His servant.

We read where Moses answered the people; “Do not fear! Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever. The Lord will fight for you while you keep silent (or be still).” Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the sons of Israel to go forward. As for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, and the sons of Israel shall go through the midst of the sea on dry land. As for Me, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them; and I will be honoured through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. Then the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord, when I am honoured through Pharaoh, through his chariots and his horsemen.” (Exodus 14:13-18)

Israel as a nation had come to the point where all they could do was to look alone to the Lord and to his servant Moses for their deliverance and found God to be true to His covenant promises. Once they had been delivered and their enemies destroyed they sang the song of Moses and in doing this worshipped the Lord who had delivered them from the hands of their enemies and from out of the hands of all who had hated them.

This whole situation teaches us about what will happen to Israel in the last Days just before the Lord Jesus comes back. Israel of old was saved by the hand of Moses, a type of the Messiah, and modern Israel will be saved by the hand of the Messiah our Lord Jesus. At present the leaders and the people of Israel are looking to the Egypt of this world for their alliances and security against their implacable enemies on all sides of Israel hell-bent on their annihilation as a nation.

It is a time of political and national upheaval. While Prime Minister Netanyahu has “been at the helm steering the ship” as it were for many years now, he has been looking to other nations for security against their enemies. He knows that even though Israel’s defence capabilities are exceptional he also knows that the weapons of Israel’s Islamic neighbours have the power to absolutely annihilate Israel. You have Hamas in Gaza using the current ceasefire to re-arm and re-establish their underground terrorist network so that they can start to send rockets into Israel again.

You have Hezbollah in Lebanon stock piled with thousands of rockets and missiles more advanced technologically than those in Gaza. Of course, added to this, you have Iran developing nuclear capability and fighting a proxy war with Israel through Hezbollah and Hamas. Then you have Turkey ‘upping the ante’ on its vilification of Israel and calling for the whole Islamic world to invade Israel and to cease the temple mount for Islam. Turkish forces are also in North Syria. Once Assad has been removed from power Turkey will have its way clear to invade Israel over the Golan Heights if they can succeed in wrestling it from the Israelis.

The Iron Dome needs its stocks replenished and Israel are facing a huge payout to America for this replenishment. While the Biden Administration has pledged their support for Israel it still proceeds with its Iranian nuclear deal. The Biden Administration cannot be trusted to stand by Israel. They are cozying up to the Muslim Brotherhood as did the Obama administration. As many as 12 Muslim Americans have been selected for various positions in the new US administration, led by Joe Biden. Covering the induction of so many Muslim faces is reflective of how the new government is going to function in the upcoming four years. Some of these appointments are key positions covering legislative affairs, national security, defence, health and legal matters. One is personally in charge of Biden’s personal mail and of all information that comes across his desk both from home and abroad.

Now with the sweeping change that has occurred with a new Israeli government being formed we see the rise of a new combined political power that is replacing PM Netanyahu. Yair Lapid is the leader of the centrist Yesh Atid party. Mansour Abbas, is the head of the United Arab List, as the first Arab party to join an Israeli governing coalition. Finally you have Naftali Bennett, a right-wing political leader who has called for annexation of much of the occupied West Bank. Once the matter of a government has been finally settled in Israel Naftali Bennett will serve as prime minister for the first two years of the new government’s term before handing the role over to Lapid in 2023. The three parties have almost nothing in common, except it seems a shared desire to bring Netanyahu’s reign to an end. It would seem political power is still ‘the name of the game’ in Israel.

A disturbing factor for Israel’s future security is the fact that Mansour Abbas, head of the United Arab List political party, is not the kind of politician who usually wields power in the Jewish state. He’s an Islamist who has more in common ideologically with Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood than he has with any of Israel’s political parties. At present Israel have a religious faction and many young secular Israelis have no religion or faith at all in the Lord but are living hedonistic lifestyles and according to the pattern of the unsaved pagan world.

God has His fishermen at work in Israeli society seeking to win their fellow Israelis to saving faith in the Messiah our Lord Jesus. Many Jewish people are coming to faith in the Messiah our Lord Jesus and the blessed Holy Spirit is always at work in this matter. However, the hunters are coming and even now closing in on Israel. (Jeremiah 16:15b-16) The political instability in Israel’s political arena have galvanised Israel’s enemies into action. Added to this, with Biden in the White House Israel’s enemies feel emboldened to move against the Jewish homeland. When you look at the long and troubled history of Israel we can see that time and time again when Israel’s leaders trusted in other nation’s leaders for their security rather than in God, He sent nations against them, not to destroy them, but to bring about their repentance and a turning back to Him. When they did God swiftly put Israel’s enemies to flight and rescued His people out of the clutches of those who hated and afflicted them.

Time and time again God’s message to Israel came through the mouths of His prophets. As the Lord said; “Put not your trust in princes, in mortal man, who cannot save.” (Psalm 146:3) And again God says; “It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes.” (Psalm 118:9) And yet again God says; “Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!” (Isaiah 31:1, 8)

God’s message has not changed for His people. The unrest and instability happening in Israel today is no accident. God is still at work because He remembers His covenants! Because of Israel’s leaders rejection of the Messiah and because they are looking to the leaders of this world for their security He must bring them to the ‘Red Sea’ (metaphorically speaking) and to the point where they will cry out to Him in desperation having lost two thirds of their fellow Israelis to the scourge of the Antichrist and his empire. (Zechariah 13:8-9) (Daniel 7:21, 25) (Daniel 12:7)

Just as Moses was used by the Lord to rescue His people at the Red Sea so the Lord our God will send the Messiah our Lord Jesus back to rescue His faithful remnant and to utterly destroy their enemies. (Zechariah 12:1-9) They will see Him whom they pierced and mourn for Him and turn back to Him and He will deliver them as He did in the Exodus from Egypt many centuries ago. (Zechariah 12:10-14) Together, faithful Jews and faithful Gentiles grafted into the Commonwealth of Israel, redeemed by the blood of the Messiah, the sacrificial Passover Lamb of God, will, as one people under one shepherd, sing the song of Moses!

And so we read in the Book of Revelation, “They sang the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying: “Great and marvellous are Your works, Lord God Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of saints! Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. All nations shall come and worship before You, for Your judgments have been revealed.” (Revelation 15:3-4)

In that day God will show Himself to be majestic in holiness, awesome in glory and working wonders for His redeemed people. On the day when God’s people have been redeemed by the blood of the lamb and saved out of the hands of the Antichrist and his armies we read once again these words, “And they sang the Song of Moses.” See (Exodus 15:1-18)
