Have you ever really considered why Israel is at the centre of the major area of conflict we see today throughout the whole of the middle-east region? While other nations have their problems Israel is the only nation that right now is ‘under the guns’ of Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Iran, Turkey, the United Nations, the European Union, the media by and large, and from rising Anti-Semitism globally. Not only are Israelis faced with these implacable enemies on a daily basis but now have to contend with internal disunity at the political level. Faced with opposition and possibly another election Prime Minister “Bibby” Netanyahu is ‘hard-pressed’ to keep things on the rails as Israel’s Prime Minister even though he is now designated as a ’caretaker’ prime Minister.
What is really happening between Israel and the nations? Is it just part and parcel of the wars and rumours of wars? Is it just nation rising against nation and Kingdom against kingdom or is there another relentless war that is being waged in the unseen spiritual world between God’s spirit-beings and Satan’s spirit-beings but directly related to Israel and by inclusion and extension faithful Christians? Israel’s real war is not with just human beings but with powerful fallen spirit-beings residing in this unseen spiritual world who have authority designated to interfere with the nations on earth that, like themselves, are in rebellion against God.
In the Book of Deuteronomy we read these words. “Remember the days of old; consider the years of many generations; ask your father, and He will show you, your elders, and they will tell you. When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, when He divided mankind, he fixed the borders of the peoples according to the number of the sons of God. But the lord’s portion is His people, Jacob his allotted heritage.” (Deuteronomy 32:7-9)
It was at the Tower of Babel that the LORD confused the languages of the people seeking to build an empire that would reach to the heavens to dethrone God if that were possible, which of course it isn’t! The Tower of Babel was a Ziggurat and in ancient Mesopotamian culture these ziggurats were the place where humans called down the ‘gods’ inviting them to come to earth. It was a portal through which the occult powers in the unseen spiritual realm gained entry into the earth.
After the LORD had dispersed the people into their allotted geographical regions He did it according to the numbers of the sons of God. (Deuteronomy 32:8) Now “the sons of God” in the Hebrew text are called “elohim” or “the elohim” and the word in this context does not designate one “elohim” but many. These specifically were created spirit beings. These spirit beings were created by Yahweh the eternal and supreme “Elohim,” the supreme “Yahweh” who created all things. Not all of these spirit-beings had rebelled against Him and God still has His “sons of God” “the elohim” in His heavenly council with whom He consults on all manner of things. (Psalm 82:1) (Daniel 7:9-10) These “sons of God” were present at creation. (Job 38:1-7)
Now the nations dispersed by God after their attempted rebellion at the Tower of Babel were directly associated with these fallen “sons of God” and shared in their rebellion. God gave these nations over to the authority of these fallen spirit-beings. The nations came to worship these “gods” which were in fact these same fallen spirit-beings residing in the atmosphere but also included demonic spirits roaming the surface of the earth but also in the unseen spiritual realm. In fact we are told in both Testaments that the worship of idols or other ‘gods’ is actually the worship of demons. (Deuteronomy 32:16-17) (1 Corinthians 10:20)
Because the nations were in rebellion against the LORD at the Tower of Babel God numbered them according to the numbers of the fallen “sons of God” and gave these nations over to their power and authority. Even though these things occurred we also read in Deuteronomy 32:9 “But the lord’s portion is His people, Jacob His allotted heritage.” God would start again with a family on earth, a nation that would be exclusively set apart to Him and to worship Him as the only supreme eternal Elohim who created all things. In Genesis chapter 11 we see the nations dispersed but in Genesis chapter 12 we see God start again to have his own unique nation, a nation free from idolatry and in that light called Abraham to be the father of this nation who would worship God alone and be the means to bring His light to a fallen world. (Genesis 12:1-3; 18:19)
Of course Israel failed to do this as a nation but the Lord Jesus “the Light of the World” and the full embodiment of what Israel was supposed to have been on earth, the one who was the same as “Elohim” and equal with Him and one with Him and face to face with Him in eternity, stepped out of that eternal unseen spiritual realm and came to earth to be born as a man. (John 1:1-5; 14) This eternal Elohim dwelling in the Godhead came into this world as a man and the portal through which He entered into our world was Mary’s womb. (Luke 1:35) Through Him Satan’s authority to keep men enslaved to sin and to Satan and his fallen spirit-beings the “sons of God,” would be broken. As we read; “And having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” (Colossians 2:15)
Immediately after the fall of man in the Garden of Eden God had said to Satan concerning the Lord Jesus that He would “crush the serpents head” delivering Satan a death blow from which he would never recover and ultimately destined to spend all of eternity tormented in the lake of fire. (Genesis 3:15) (Revelation 20:10) Now we are also told in scripture that all who have faith in the Lord Jesus to save them are sons and daughters of Abraham and are by extension and inclusion part of Israel, the nation God called into existence to be set apart exclusively by Him and its members to be His “sons of God” on earth indwelt by His Spirit. (Galatians 3:26) God not only has a heavenly family of spirit-beings of all kinds in His eternal kingdom in the heavens but also a human family on earth and we are told that the angels that are also spirit-beings or messengers are sent to minister to the heirs of salvation on earth who are through faith in the Messiah Abraham’s descendants whether they are ethnically Jew or Gentile. (Hebrews 1:14) (Galatians 3:28-29)
The war we see right now on earth between Israel and the nations opposed to them and between faithful Bible believing Christians and the pagan world is indicative of the war being raged in the unseen spiritual realm between “the fallen sons of God,” (elohim) and the faithful “sons of God” (elohim). We see this ongoing war in the unseen spiritual realm revealed in the Books of Daniel and Ephesians. (Daniel 10: 2-14) (Ephesians 6:12) Satan is seeking to destroy Israel and by extension and inclusion the faithful Church. Today there is a spirit-being or principality over Iran and Turkey and over every Muslim nation on earth for that matter. (Daniel 10:13, 20)
Today the LORD is seeking to get Israel’s attention because they are Abraham’s descendants and heirs of the promises God made to Abraham when He cut the Blood Covenant with that man and with his descendants the Jewish people and by extension and inclusion the faithful Church. (Genesis 15:10-19; 17:1-8) This was a blood covenant perfectly ratified and completed by Abraham’s seed the Lord Jesus when His blood was shed at the cross. (Galatians 3:16) After God has spiritually purified Israel as a nation through His refining fire and brought them back to Himself through encountering their Messiah they, along with the glorified saints also called “the sons of God” will co-reign with the Messiah over the surviving nations in His Messianic Kingdom.
In that day heaven and earth will become one and the sons of God in heaven will have free access to and fellowship with the sons of God on earth. In that day, after all satanic power and every ungodly nations has been completely crushed the whole earth under the reign of the Messiah will fulfil the original purpose for which Yahweh, the supreme and eternal Elohim, created it, namely for the benefit and blessing of man. (Daniel 2:34-35, 44-45) In that day we will we see the prophecy of Isaiah completely fulfilled in Israel and in the faithful Body of the glorified saints.
As Isaiah prophesies; “For the Lord shall comfort Zion (all of His redeemed sons and daughters of God): He will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.” And again he declares; “Therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away.” (Isaiah 51:3, 11)
As believers in our Lord Jesus we are at war with Satan and his fallen “sons of God” in the unseen spiritual realm. If you are a born again, Bible believing, blood washed saint then you are a descendent of Abraham and an heir to all that God promised him and to his descendants after him. (Romans 4:16-25) Your destiny as a believer in the Messiah, our Lord Jesus, is to co-reign over the surviving nations with the Messiah and Israel in His Messianic Kingdom.
Right now everything is under His feet and yours as well if you are a faithful believer in the Lord Jesus because you are in His Body, being the faithful assembly of believers, and a member of God’s elect nation Israel. (Ephesians 2:11-22) God has raised us up along with the Lord Jesus to sit together with Him in heavenly places with His power and authority to “tread upon serpents and scorpions” and all of the powers of the fallen “sons of God” who are waging a relentless spiritual war against us but a war they have already lost! (Luke 10:18-19) (Ephesians 1:20-23; 2:6-7) (Revelation 2:26-29)
