Guatemalan support
Just two days after the US Embassy officially opened in Jerusalem, Guatemala followed suit and opened the doors to its new mission in the Holy City. Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales, a dedicated Christian, was on hand to personally inaugurate his nation’s new embassy at the Malha Technology Park. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also addressed the event, showering affection and praise on Morales for having the courage to take a stand that’s so unpopular with the international community. Guatemala was also the second nation after the United States to officially recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital back in December 2017. In fact, Guatemala has a long history of supporting Israel.
My people!
Zechariah the prophet wrote…”Sing for joy and be glad, O daughter of Zion; for behold I am coming and I will dwell in your midst,” declares the LORD. “Many nations will join themselves to the LORD in that day and will become My people. Then I will dwell in your midst, and you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me to you. “The LORD will possess Judah as His portion in the holy land, and will again choose Jerusalem.” (Zechariah 2:10-12)
Loving His brethren
In these last days the LORD is raising up certain nations that will actually stand with Israel. While the ‘Big Guns’ of the UN and the EU are sending ‘salvos’ as it were into Israel you have the rather small nation of Guatemala that has supported Israel in the past that is still supporting Israel. It is not surprising in the least to know that the President of Guatemala Jimmy Morales is a dedicated Christian. The countries that will support Israel will be those countries where the seed of God’s Word has taken root deep in the heart soil of its people. Because they truly love the Lord Jesus they will also love His brethren.
How they have treated Israel
Whether the ‘head honchos’ of the UN and the EU like it or not there are nations that will join themselves to Israel. They may not be for the most part great nations but because they have chosen to side with Israel God will bless them. (Genesis 12:3) This prophecy of Zechariah primarily refers to the Millennial Kingdom of the Messiah and when you read the text itself it is actually the Messiah Himself speaking (Vs.11b) However, even in this present age there will be nations that will support Israel and those who will not and they will be rewarded according to how they have treated Israel. The Lord Jesus made this clear in Matthew 25:31-46. In its Jewish context this is a very reasonable interpretation of this passage in Matthew even though by extension it also applies to how professing Christians have responded to those in spiritual and physical need in the world and in Christendom.
A Reunion is coming!
Even though Israel was exiled to the nations because of their sin and rebellion against Him the LORD we are told will “possess Judah as His portion in the holy land, and will again choose Jerusalem.” In these last days there will be a ‘chasm’ between those nations and Churches that support Israel and between those who do not. The Lord Jesus is bringing His brethren home for a reunion with Himself as Joseph did with His brothers. Zechariah also writes about this reunion…“And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn. In that day there shall be a great mourning in Jerusalem…” (Zechariah 12:10-11a)
He will again choose Jerusalem
Coming back to Zechariah chapter 2 the Messiah dwelling in eternity also speaks in verses 7-9 when He says through Zechariah…“For thus says the Lord of hosts: “He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye. For surely I will shake My hand against them, and they shall become spoil for their servants. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me.” Has God finished with Israel? Most certainly not, for the Messiah Himself says; “For thus says the Lord of hosts: “He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye.” (Vs.8) He will again choose Jerusalem.
