The Day of the LORD
“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare or burned up. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with His promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.” (2 Peter 3:10-13)
There is a day coming when the Lord Jesus the anointed Messiah will return again to this planet to judge the world in righteousness and with justice. When He comes back the power of His words will create something akin to a thermonuclear chain reaction of horrendous proportions even “melting the elements in the fervent heat.” Everything in that day will be laid bare. All of the thoughts, the intentions and the motives of those who have rejected the Lord Jesus will be exposed and they will have to give account personally to Him for the things they have said, thought and done in this life. This is an appointment every unbeliever in Jesus still living on the earth will have to keep. There will be no escape, excuses or exceptions!
1. The Lord Jesus made certain predictions.
The Lord Jesus predicted that before His Second Coming this world would be rocked with wars, rumours of wars, earthquakes in various places, famine and disease on a scale unparalleled in past history. He called them “labour pains” and was using the contractions a woman experiences in pregnancy just before the birth of the baby to illustrate His explanation. He said these ‘contractions’ would increase in intensity and frequency and when they were coming one upon another you would know that the birth of God’s Kingdom on earth was about to occur. (Matthew 24:7)
The Bible says that when He comes back a mighty global earthquake will occur causing even the Great Skyscrapers in many cities around the world to collapse and this earthquake so intense that it will cause men and women from every walk and station of life to hide themselves in caves and among the rocks of the mountains even calling on the mountains and the rocks to fall upon them and to hide them from the face of God who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb God’s Son. The great day of His wrath upon their sin and rebellion will have come upon them and there will be no place to run to or to hide. (Isaiah 30:25) (Zechariah 14:3-5) (Revelation 6:15-17) Even the constellations will be effected as the sun will be blackened and the moon will not give its light and the stars will fall from the sky as the heavenly bodies are shaken. (Matthew 24:29)
2. The Rescue is coming!
As these cataclysmic events start to converge in intensity and frequency the Lord Jesus the Messiah will rescue all those who are trusting in Him, loving Him and obeying Him. In the twinkling of an eye He will rescue His people, both the Jews and the Gentiles believing in Him to meet Him in the air at His Coming again to earth. Even those faithful believers who have died physically will be raised to life again to meet the Lord at His coming. Just as a thief comes without warning and when he is least expected the Lord Jesus will return. At that time millions around the world will be caught up to meet Him in the air. Aeroplanes will fall from the sky, cars will career out of control on the freeways of the world, friends, neighbours and loved ones will suddenly be gone! (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18) (1 Corinthians 15: 51-52)
After this happens, the whole earth will suddenly come to the brink of annihilation as Jesus comes with His saints and the armies of heaven to judge the world and to set up His Messianic Kingdom. (Revelation 19:11-21) (Matthew 24:21-24, 30-31) All of these events will virtually be simultaneous. As faithful believers go up the wrath of God comes down! Those who really belong to the Lord Jesus will not experience the wrath of God. (1 Thessalonians 1:10; 4:9)
3. Are you ready to meet Him?
You can be taken to meet Him in the air at His Second Coming or be left behind to face God’s wrath on a world that has rejected and hated Him. You are either in God’s camp or Satan’s camp you cannot be in both at the same time. You are either destined for an eternal and conscious torment in hell and ultimately in the lake of fire or destined for an eternal and conscious bliss in the Messianic Kingdom and ultimately in the new heaven and earth God will create.
There is a way out for you if you do not belong to the LORD; a “fire escape” as it were; that you can take that will rescue you from this coming fiery holocaust soon to engulf the whole world. The Bible says; “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in the Messiah Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23)
All of us are great sinners and rebels against God and have violated his commandments consequently we have already been judged because of our wilful sin and rebellion against God and refusal to repent and to turn to Jesus by faith. (John 3:18) However, the Bible also says; “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
4. God created you to have a personal relationship with Him.
God created you to have a personal relationship with Him through a personal relationship with His Son the Lord Jesus the anointed Messiah. God loves you, however, there is a problem, your sins have separated you from Him but God sent His Son into the world to die for your sins and to take your place as a sinner even though He was without sin. He exchanged places with you at the cross that you might have the opportunity to be reconciled to God and to have all of your sins forgiven. The Bible also says; “For our sake He (God) made Him (Jesus) to be sin (a sacrifice for sin) who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness (righteous ones) of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)
The Lord Jesus shed his blood to atone for your sin and rebellion and God accepted His sacrifice on your behalf. Faith in Jesus to save you, and faith in His blood to atone for your sin and to cleanse you from all of it in your life, will bring you to heaven if you died tonight. (1 John 1:7-9) Right now through the shed blood of the Lord Jesus God offers you redemption and forgiveness for all of your past sins no matter how bad they have been. (Ephesians 1:7) Faith in His blood and in Him will spare you from the coming wrath of God. (Romans 5:9)
This world with its lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life is ‘a Titanic’ heading for ‘the iceberg’ of judgement and wrath and the end is coming soon. The Lord Jesus the Messiah is the only ‘lifeboat of salvation.’ Only those with ‘the life jacket of salvation’ firmly buckled on by faith will be rescued. The Lord Jesus said; “I am the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the father except through Me.” (John 14:6) The Bible also says; “Salvation exists in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
God loves you and wants to be reconciled to you for time and eternity but you must turn from your sin and rebellion and turn to Him unconditionally for mercy and pardon to be rescued from the coming wrath and to make you fit to enter into His eternal kingdom. The Bible says; “Seek the LORD while He may be found; call on Him while He is near. Let the wicked man forsake his own way and the unrighteous man his own thoughts; let him return to the LORD, that He may have compassion, and to our God, for He will freely pardon.” (Isaiah 55:6-7)
Will you now repent and tell God that you are sorry for your rebellion and rejection of Him and His commandments and indifference to His Son who has bled and died for you? He will freely pardon and that in abundance!
Are you willing to turn from all and every sin in your life with all of your heart trusting in the mercy and forgiveness of God? You can be put into right standing with God right now and by faith in the Lord Jesus and in His blood and merits receive the righteous life that comes from God upon faith. (Romans 3:21-24) The Bible says; “The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart (that is, the word of faith which we preach); because, if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved, for man believes with his heart and so is justified, and he confesses with his lips and so is saved. The scripture says, “No one who believes in Him will be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and bestows his riches upon all who call upon him. For, “everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.”(Romans 10:8-13)
5. You can be saved right now.
(Acts 2:37-39) “Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brethren, what shall we do?” And Peter said to them, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children and to all that are far off, every one whom the Lord our God calls to him.”
On the day of Pentecost after Peter had been preaching God’s Word in the power of the Holy Spirit his listeners were cut to the heart concerning their unbelief in Jesus as their Messiah, Saviour and rightful Lord. Peter told then what they needed to do in order to be saved. There are four steps you need to take to be saved…
Firstly; you need to repent, to confess all known sin and to tell God you are sorry for breaking His laws and rejecting His Son who has bled and died for you personally, and that you are now willing to stop sinning with all of your heart relying upon God to empower you to do this.
Secondly; you must believe that The Lord Jesus has bled and died for you and that by faith in Him you can be acquitted of all of your sins and offences in God’s law court and go free with all of your sins forgiven and cleansed, trusting in the Lord Jesus to save you and to keep you.
Thirdly; you must be willing to be baptised in water to show that you have now died to your old life of sin and arisen to a new life of righteousness, joy and peace in the Holy Spirit. As the Bible also says; “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 14:17)
Fourthly; you must receive the full measure of the Holy Spirit’s power into your life to empower you for ministry and service for God. Will you now repent of all known sin? Are you willing to believe on the Lord Jesus and in His atoning blood for forgiveness of all of your sins? Are you willing to be baptized in water and ask for the Holy Spirit? Whatever you do “Don’t Be Left Behind!”
The Sinners prayer;
“Dear Heavenly father. I want to thank you for loving me and for sending the Lord Jesus to die in my place and for my sin and rebellion against you and your commandments. Thank you that the blood of your dear Son has fully and forever atoned for all and every sin. I now confess Jesus as my personal Lord and saviour and want to love and serve Him for the rest of my life. I confess Jesus as the Lord over my life and believe in my heart that you raised Him from the dead. I am now willing to turn away from my unbelief in the Lord Jesus and from my sin and rebellion against you and from everything in my life that displeases you. I now turn from my own will and by faith embrace your good, acceptable and perfect will for my life. Please make me a brand new person deep down on the inside and the kind of person you created me to be. Have mercy on me Lord Jesus, pardon and cleanse me from every sin by your stoning blood. I now receive by faith the fullness of your Holy Spirit into my life because you are now my personal Saviour and Lord. Thank you Lord Jesus for saving me and in your name I pray this prayer to God my Heavenly Father. Amen!”
