The LORD Declares…
(Jeremiah 49:37-39) “So I will shatter Elam before their enemies And before those who seek their lives; And I will bring calamity upon them, Even My fierce anger,’ declares the Lord, ‘And I will send out the sword after them Until I have consumed them. ‘Then I will set My throne in Elam And destroy out of it king and princes,’ Declares the Lord. ‘But it will come about in the last days That I will restore the fortunes of Elam,’ ” Declares the Lord.”
Elam is Iran today
Elam in the Bible was the ancient Kingdom of Persia which today is Iran. There is no doubt that the Iranian regime and their Islamic armies will fall under the judgement of God for their persecution of Jews and Christians and also because the regime in that land is hell-bent on the destruction of Israel. The Iranian regime has publically declared “death to Israel.” Sometime ago they even released a video showing Iran attacking Israel. The Bible is clear that the armies of Iran will fall on the mountains of Israel along with all of the other Islamic armies of the Antichrist and those who join them. When it looks like Jerusalem is finished the LORD will rain down fire from heaven to consume Israel’s adversaries gathered against them. (Ezekiel 38:5, 22; 39:6)
An Indo-European people
Today Iran is seeking to build a nuclear device and if they succeed there is no doubt they will use it. Before the Ayatollah Khomeini and his henchmen took over Iran in 1979 the Persians historically were always friendly to the Jews. Iran of course was originally Persia and we know from history that the ancient kings of Persia befriended the Jews. The Shah of Iran who sat on the “Peacock throne” traced his roots back to king Cyrus himself who at God’s command allowed the Jews to go back to Israel. Through the prophet Isaiah God Himself called King Cyrus by name and called him His servant several hundred years before he was born (Isaiah 45:1). The name ‘Iran’ comes from the word ‘Aryan’ a name adopted by the Nazis who saw Germany as a superior race and hated the Jews. The ‘Iranians’ were not of Arab descent but Indo-European and ethnically related to the Germans. In the 1930’s the name Persia was changed to Iran. Up until 1979 the Iranian government under the Shah were friendly to the Jews.
Iran going Nuclear
After the Ayatollah Khomeini came to power a militant Islamic government came to Iran. During the reign of the Shah Iran had started to develop their nuclear programme in association with the western nations. Most probably they were thinking about the hostility from Iraq that is originally the country of the ancient Babylonians. Before 1979 Israel and Iran were allies. The shah admired Israel mainly because of its military success. General Yitzhak Segev, Israel’s military attaché from 1977 to 1979 said in the recently produced film titled; ‘Before the Revolution’; “The cooperation with Israel was tremendous. Every Iranian general visited Israel and we visited them.” Of course in 1979 all that changed with the Shah renouncing the throne making the way clear for the tentacles of Islam to spread across Iran. From that time on Israel were Iran’s sworn enemies.
Israel’s coming war with Iran
According to Daniel chapter ten in its prophetic context it describes a future war between Iran and Israel in these last days that Israel will win. Iran will be defeated and withdrawal to ‘lick their wounds’ and then return with the invasion forces described in Ezekiel chapters 38-39 where we are told the armies of Iran will be eliminated on the mountains of Israel along with all of the other Islamic armies attacking Jerusalem. The vision given to Daniel in chapter ten relates to the future of Israel and their war with Iran. As yet there has not been a war between Israel and Iran since the Ayatollah came to power back in 1979.
God’s mercy on Iran
God will have mercy on the Iranian people as He said through the prophet Jeremiah; “Then I will set My throne in Elam And destroy out of it king and princes,’ Declares the Lord. ‘But it will come about in the last days That I will restore the fortunes of Elam,’ ”Declares the Lord.” On the Day of Pentecost there were Elamites present who heard the mighty works of God being proclaimed in their own language and then heard the message of the Gospel of the Kingdom. (Acts 2:9) Despite what the fundamentalist Islamic Iranian regime is doing today in suppressing and persecuting Christians and seeking to destroy Israel the LORD will have the final say. God has His sights set on Iran! In the Last days He will not only set up His throne in Iran (spiritually speaking) but destroy the regime of the kings and princes that has oppressed the Iranian people. Added to this the LORD will restore the fortunes of Iran. This will be good news for our beleaguered and persecuted brothers and sisters in Iran. We must always keep in mind that behind these ancient and not so ancient empires is a principality or demonic spirit seeking to destroy Israel and the faithful Body of the Messiah. We must never forget that all of us as believers in our Lord Jesus the Messiah are at war and engaged in a wrestling match with Satan and with these demonic spirits of wickedness in high places but it is a war that Satan and his cohorts from hell cannot win!
