“Then they said, “Come, let us build for ourselves a city, and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves a name,” (Genesis 11:4a)
Nimrod the Rebel
In the Book of Genesis we are told that Nimrod grew to be a mighty warrior on the earth and that he was a mighty hunter before the Lord. The only other references to Nimrod in the Bible are found in Micah 5:6, where Assyria is called the land of Nimrod, and I Chronicles 1:10, which reiterate his might. He was well known among the peoples he ruled over. (Genesis 10:9) Now the Hebrew translated says “He was a mighty hunter in the face of God.” In other words he was a rebel who stood against God. He was a hunter and he must have been quite proficient at hunting wild animals but more so a hunter who sought to snare men into his autocratic ‘net’ of despotism and rule over them.
The founder of Babylon and Assyria
He was one who knew of God but freely chose, brazenly, to reject His authority. And so we see the phrase “a mighty hunter before the Lord, or in the face of God” twice mentioned. It could also be rendered “like Nimrod, a mighty inciter in direct confrontation with the Lord.” It has also been stated that Nimrod was angry with God because of the flood. We are also told that he was the founder and builder of Babylon and Assyria. (Genesis 10:10-12) When Nimrod ruled over his kingdom the nations spread across the earth after the flood (Genesis 10:32) All of the people within those nations spoke a common language which unified them but Nimrod was the leader who wanted to unite them as one nation and that as a nation that could challenge God face to face.
Ganging up on God
Well Nimrod had a summit of sorts with the leaders of the other nations to organize a united kingdom that would resist God and seek to usurp His sovereign rule over the world and everything in it. In the Bible Nimrod was the first type or foreshadow of the Antichrist or man of lawlessness, also called the man of sin. At this summit of leaders hosted by Nimrod they decided to build a city with a tower that would reach up into the heavens. In the Book of Genesis what we see happening in the time of Nimrod we see happening again today with a form of globalization on the agenda of many nations. In Genesis Chapter 11:1-9 we read about this situation that occurred. Now let’s look at what happened back then because prophetically it is a pattern of what is starting to happen in the world today and will come about just before our Lord Jesus comes back. Let’s begin…
Genesis Chapter 11:1-9
(Vs.1) “Now the whole earth used the same language and the same words.”
Communication was not a problem in Nimrod’s time before the Triune God confused their languages and scattered them. Today, through binary codes, when nations gather together for a summit or a global conference they can have instant translations. This in itself enables instant communication. So then, in the time of Nimrod wherever the people had settled across the face of the earth they all had the same language and under the rule of Nimrod shared his end goal, namely to confront God Himself and challenge His right to rule over man whom He had created.
Today we see leaders of nations seeking to produce a system of global governance where there is a centralised form of control over the population. The COVID-19, so called ‘Pandemic,’ has provided the perfect opportunity for the development of a global community dependent on a centralized system of government. The COVID-19 vaccinations, which to a degree are still in the experimental stage if the truth be known, and the scare-mongering and the hysteria of the mainstream media have provided the testing ground for the coming mark of the beast system of government which people will need to have in order to buy and to sell. (Revelation 13:16-17) Most likely it will come via mass vaccinations.
We see this type of technology making leaps and bounds through experimenting with Artificial intelligence interfaced with human DNA. They are experimenting with inserting microchips into people’s brains to give them instant communication with artificial intelligence through the cyber world. We see population control being developed through Quantum Dot technology with encoded information and one’s personal information. We see an interface between humans and robots through robotics interacting with humans.
We see the cyber world of virtual reality with its life-like images high jacking the imaginations and the minds and emotions of countless millions around the world, especially young people. Computer games are now highly sophisticated to the point where you cannot tell the difference between real humans and images electronically produced. A whole generation of youngsters are now enslaved by and addicted to this form of mind-control technology. Undoubtedly over time fantasy and reality become blurred. Added to this human to human contact is no longer necessary for those addicted to this technology because of interacting with ‘people’ in cyber space.
We see people’s lives being controlled through the smart phone technology which provides ones ID and can be used for financial transactions and tracking purposes such as we see with the QR Codes. Through the internet people’s thinking is being programmed to have a global perspective and be psychologically, emotionally and from a spiritual perspective, conditioned to accept everything they see and hear through the media. Behind all of this is “the god of this world” Satan, “the prince of the power of the air” or the atmosphere just above the surface of the earth, the OP Centre of Satan’s activities on earth. (2 Corinthians 4:4) (Ephesians 2:2) (Job 1:7; 2:2) And so we see that the people in the time of Nimrod were able to communicate with a common language which is once again possible today through binary codes and advanced technology. And then we read…
(Vs.2) “It came about as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there”
Shinar was a plain situated in the marshes of the east bank of the Euphrates; roughly 60 miles southeast of Ancient Babylon. It was in this region that the people came to live. Babylon surfaces in Bible Prophecy. All of the kings of Babylon are types or a foreshadowing of the final man of sin who will come with the same character traits that marked all of the kings of Babylon historically. The major one of course was King Nebuchadnezzar who had a gold stature made in his own image and likeness and demanded people throughout his empire to bow down and worship it. In worshipping his image they would be worshipping him and his beast empire and all that it offered them. (Daniel 3:4-6)
This historical and Biblical account teaches us about the final Antichrist and his image which will be worshipped throughout his kingdom that will be one of global proportions. Some will go into captivity and others killed by the sword. This will be the ultimate challenge confronting the faithful Body of the Messiah in these last days and will call for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of all God’s saints (faithful believers). If your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life because you have been born again by the Spirit and washed in the blood of the Messiah, then the blessed Holy Spirit Himself will give you the power you need to persevere and endure to the end knowing that you are going into a kingdom that will never fade or perish. (Revelation 13:7-10)
As the apostle Peter writes; “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus the Anointed Messiah! By His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus the Anointed Messiah from the dead, and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power for the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.” (1 Peter 1:3-5)
Babylon was not only a historical physical City on the banks of the Euphrates River but prophetically is also a city in the desert by the Sea whose destruction is heard at the Red Sea. As Jeremiah the prophet writes; “Therefore hear the plans that the LORD has drawn up against Edom (Saudi Arabia) and the strategies He has devised against the people of Teman (located in Saudi Arabia): Surely the little ones of the flock will be dragged away; certainly their pasture will be made desolate because of them. At the sound of their fall the earth will quake; their cry will resound to the Red Sea.” (Jeremiah 49:20-21) The only city today located at the Red sea in a desert is Mecca.
Iran hates the Arabs and wants to see Mecca and Medina destroyed. This is one of the reasons Iran wants to have a nuclear bomb. Historically the City of Babylon was never destroyed but just atrophied over time. Prophetically, according to the Book of Revelation, Babylon is described as a City in a desert by the Sea and the source of all false religion because she is “the mother of harlots” and the city that has given birth to all false religions. (Revelation 17:3-5) This City in a desert by the Red Sea would be Mecca today. Islam is the ‘child’ of Babylon, “the woman drunk with the blood of the saints, with the blood of those who bear testimony to Jesus.” (Revelation 17:6)
In fact it is the source of all who have been killed on earth. As John writes about Babylon; “And there was found in her the blood of prophets and saints, and of all who had been slain on the earth.” (Revelation 18:24) Who is killing who today globally? Who is killing Christians? Who is fighting proxy wars all over the globe? It is Islam, the ideology and religion of the sword. Hence you have the emblem of the crossed swords on Islamic flags and war banners pointing upwards signifying conquest by the sword.
Having said this Babylon in the Bible also has a wider and metaphoric application in that the lifestyles, the pleasures, the pursuits, the mystery religions, the sensuality and the opulence of Ancient Babylon is seen in every nation of the world today as well as in wider Christendom and even in Israel with many Israelis living hedonistic lifestyles that go contrary to the Torah. The ‘spirit’ of Babylon is coming through the internet and the media right into our living rooms. The ‘spirit’ of Babylon has permeated every level and facet of society. From God’s perspective every inclination of people’s hearts today are becoming more rebellious and evil just as it was in the days of Noah before the flood came and swept them all away into the pit of perdition. (Genesis 6:5) (Matthew 25:37-41) And so the people who migrated to the plain of Shinar we are told “settled there.” And so we read…
(Vs. 3-4) They said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and burn them thoroughly.” And they used brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar. They said, “Come, let us build for ourselves a city, and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves a name, otherwise we will be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”
Since the fall of Satan fallen man has always sought to be the god of their own lives, to plan according to the dictates of the human heart which we are told in the Word of God is “deceitful above all things and desperately wicked and who can know it?” except God of course and those who were once in spiritual darkness who have been made light in the Lord and saved from the power of sin and spiritually enlightened by the blessed Holy Spirit Himself. (Jeremiah 17:9) (Ephesians 5:8) Satan’s sin was pride and to be God, he grasped for power and fell! (Ezekiel 28:11-19) (Isaiah 14:12-17)
This rebellious character trait is seen in those who do not know God today, dead in their trespasses and sins, in which they walk being conformed to the ways of this world and a reflection of their overlord the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit who is now at work in all the sons of disobedience… fulfilling the cravings of the flesh and indulging its desires and thoughts and by nature children of wrath.” (Ephesians 2:1-3) Only those who have been loosed from their sins by the power of the Blood of the Lord Jesus have been redeemed and delivered out of Satan’s hands by God. “He has rescued them from the domain of darkness, and transferred them to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom they have redemption, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of His grace” (Revelation 1:7) (Colossians 1:13) (Ephesians 1:7)
Now these people under the rule of Nimrod decided to build a city with a tower that would reach into the heavens. They had decided to be a united front against everything that was good, wholesome, and true and that God had commanded and approved of in his Word. It was a deliberate attempt to set up a rival kingdom that would not acknowledge the one who had created them. Most Biblical and historical scholars believe it was a Ziggurat that they started to build.
Built in ancient Mesopotamia, a ziggurat was a type of massive stone structure resembling pyramids and featured terraced levels. Accessible only by way of the stairways, it traditionally symbolized a link between the ‘gods’ and the human kind, although it also served practically as shelter from floods. Some believe at the top of the structure was an occult symbol and the place where humans could interact with the unseen spiritual realm being of course the realm of Satan, fallen spirit beings, fallen angels and demons. The mystery religions of Babylon were heavily imbued with evil spirits.
Now we are also told that these people united as one against God wanted to make a name for themselves which is also the result of man’s pride and a direct reflection of “the god of this age who has blinded the minds of unbelievers so they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of the Anointed Messiah (Christ), who is the exact and visible image of the invisible God.” (2 Corinthians 4:4) (Colossians 1:15)
Today we see this same thing as the nations of the wold seek a way to unify themselves, to control the world’s population and to find ways and means to build a global community with allegiance to a centralised governing body of autocrats who tell people what they can and can’t do and who require absolute obedience from the people or suffer the consequences. This is where the world is headed. Ultimately a beast kingdom with its despotic ruler empowered and indwelt by Satan will emerge that will be one of global proportions. It will be a resurrected empire that was active, that seemed to suffer a fatal wound, but its wound is healed, and it is resurrected once again in the second beast empire. (Revelation Chapter 13) The two beast kingdoms are the one and the same kingdom. (Revelation 13:12)
In today’s world this beast empire would have to be Islam, the fourth and final beast kingdom in the Book of Daniel. The characteristics of this fourth beast empire cannot apply to Rome historically but to Islam. Historically Rome could adapt to the culture and customs of previous empires but Islam cannot assimilate. It is a terrifying and frightening and very powerful empire with large iron teeth that crushes and devours its victims and tramples underfoot whatever is left and is different than all of the former beast empires that preceded it. (Daniel 7:7) This describes the character of Islam.
Historically, it was the Turkish Ottoman Empire that destroyed the last vestige of the Roman Empire known as Byzantium. Today Islam is a divided people with the Shiite and Sunni divide we see depicted in the two iron legs of Nebuchadnezzar’s statue. (Daniel 2:33) When Muslims are not fighting ‘the infidel’ they go to fighting each other. “Ishmael’s seed is always divided.” (Genesis 16:12) It will take one with the character traits of Nimrod to unite Islam. This most likely will be the last and final Mahdi of Islam who will establish an empire of global proportions who will proclaim to be God and worshipped as God. (Daniel 11:36-38) (2 Thessalonians 2:4) The religious component of Islam can trace its roots all the way back to Nimrod and the Tower of Babel. Nimrod had himself deified as a ‘god.’ In Mecca today you have the huge Clock tower with the crescent moon at the apex of its spire overlooking the Kaaba containing the black stone. The Muslims call this tower “Mount Babel,” obviously a symbol of Islamic superiority over all other nations and religions and historically connected to the Tower of Babel.
At present we see the globalists primarily in the western democracies seeking to build their own tower of Babel and they have been hard at work using the COVID-19 situation as a test run for controlling the world’s population. However, Muslims are invading the west through migration and many are going into senior government positions. Biden has at least 14 Muslims in his administration and some with portfolios for key positions in the American government. It may well be that we will see the western global elite hijacked by Islam. We are not talking about the resurrection of a European beast empire but the resurrection of an Islamic beast empire that has its roots in the Babylon of Nimrod and an empire of global proportions that will expand into the continent of Europe.
In this last beast empire those who refuse to worship and submit to its leader and the policies of his kingdom will be killed primarily by beheading. (Revelation 13:15; 20:4) Who is beheading who today? Beheading is the main form of execution in Islam. Like the people in the time of Nimrod, Islam is seeking to make a name for itself. Another thing to mention is that technology is already being adopted in Islamic countries. Another example, if China, with a population of over 1.41 Billion can track people’s movements through scanning with facial recognition, then the same thing can be done in the developing third world. What will God do? He will do what He did in the time of Nimrod. He will intervene! Now let’s look at this…
(Vs 5-9) The Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. The Lord said, “Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them. Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.” So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of the whole earth; and they stopped building the city. Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of the whole earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of the whole earth.”
Nothing in all of creation escapes the eyes of the Lord for we are told in His Word “For the eyes of the LORD roam to and fro over all the earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are fully devoted to Him.” (2 Chronicles 16:9) If our hearts are fully devoted to the Lord then His eyes will be upon us. We are also told in God’s Word that “man looks on the outward appearance God looks upon the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7) While Nimrod and his associates were building their global empire the Triune God was looking down from His throne in the heavens and the three members of the Godhead were discussing what to do about the situation. Possibly the Trinity were also discussing things with the heavenly council of judges. (Psalm 82:1) They saw that if those building the tower kept going that there would be nothing impossible for them to do what they had purposed in their hearts to do. Nimrod and his followers thought if he kept building the tower that he would eventually be able to see God and confront Him. Of course humanly speaking it was a Mesopotamian Ziggurat not a spaceship but a Ziggurat (tower) that had the access to the fallen unseen spiritual world located in the atmosphere above the earth’s surface.
Today we see space travel and nations competing for dominance in this field. We see technology advancing in Artificial intelligence fused with human DNA. We see cloning and microchip implants connected to cyber space in computers. We see facial recognition and electronic scanning and development in robotics and robots interfaced with humans. We even see laboratory experiments in China with soldiers of the Chinese Liberation Army to enhance them biologically. It is also now obvious that the current COVID-19 ‘virus’ came out of the Wuhan Laboratory in China which it has been reported has been developing biological weapons for some time now.
In reality the leaders of the nations are in effect rejecting God and seeking to make a name for man among themselves. There is no fear of or reverance for God before their eyes. (Romans 3:18) In a very real sense with developing space travel nothing will be impossible for them to achieve or so they think in their deep minds focused on themselves and not on God who created everything including them. Man is still worshipping created things instead of worshipping their creator. (Romans 1:25)
Now God will do what He did at the Tower of Babel and intervene before things really get out of hand. At present fallen man is making advances in technology and we are going to see a system of governmental control on a global scale through this technology. However, a time will come when, for the sake of God’s elect believers in the Lord Jesus, and for the surviving remnant in Israel, and for the very survival of the planet, the Lord will cut those days short and destroy the plans and evil machinations of a fallen world in rebellion against its lawful creator. (Matthew 24:21-22) In the time of Nimrod the Triune God confused their languages and caused them to scatter leaving their city and tower unfinished. This time God is going to annihilate the armies of those nations arrayed against Him and His people on earth. He will destroy the empire of the man of sin and destroy him in the process. (Daniel 2:34-35, 44-45) (2 Thessalonians 2:6-10; 2:8)
As believers in our Lord Jesus we are entering into a time in world affairs like nothing that has ever happened before. Today technology is invading every aspect of our daily lives. Through technology the world’s population is increasingly being monitored and controlled. This is happening through the internet but also through the development of technology that is being structured to control us. Whether it is digital ID’s, virtual reality in cyber space, the internet and television and the mainstream media outlets, computer games, smart phones, imbedded microchips, facial recognition and ID technology or Nano chip technology with imbedded personal data through future vaccinations, it is all wicked and unprincipled men seeking to build their own Tower of Babel.
In the end the Triune God will smash it all to pieces and send our Lord Jesus back to put everything right and He will do just that and big time! In that day there will be heard loud voices in the heavenly courts announcing the arrival of our Lord Jesus as the KING OF KINGS AND THE LORD OF LORDS.
And so we read; “The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said: “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Anointed Messiah, and He will reign for ever and ever.” (Revelation 11:15) See also (Revelation 19:16)
When that seventh and last trumpet blast sounds, we who belong to the Lord Jesus will be caught up to meet Him in the air at His Second Coming to earth. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) In the twinkling of an eye we will all be changed, our mortality will be discarded for immortality, and we will be with the Lord forever. His Second Coming to this planet is to be our focus and our blessed hope! (Matthew 24:29-31) (1 Corinthians 15:51-54) When things really start to spin out of control on earth we are not to bow over at the knees in fear but to look upwards with expectant faith because our redemption is drawing near, even at the very gates! (Luke 21:25-28) As the Lord Jesus says to His servant John; “Behold I am coming soon! My reward is with Me. And I will give to everyone according to what he has done. I AM the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the end.” (Revelation 22:12-13) Amen!!!
